About the Service
What is a legal document preparer?
A legal document preparer (sometimes called a legal document assistant or typing service) is a non-attorney professional who prepares legal documents on behalf of clients. We do not give legal advice or represent clients in court — we prepare the paperwork accurately so you can file it yourself.
How is this different from hiring an attorney?
An attorney can give legal advice, represent you in court, and advocate on your behalf. If your situation involves disputes, hearings, or complex legal strategy, you may need one. If you need paperwork prepared for a straightforward, uncontested matter, a document preparer is often faster and significantly less expensive.
Is this legal?
Yes. Legal document preparation services are licensed by California and operate within a clearly defined scope of practice. We are fully licensed and comply with all applicable regulations.
Process & Pricing
What information will you need from me?
It depends on the document. For most matters, we’ll need identifying information (names, dates, addresses), relevant facts about your situation, and any existing documents or agreements. We’ll send you a checklist after your initial consultation.
How much does it cost?
Our fees are flat-rate and quoted upfront before any work begins. Pricing varies by document type. Contact us for a free quote — we’re always transparent about costs before you commit.
How long does it take?
Most standard documents are ready within 2–5 business days. Rush service is available for time-sensitive situations.
Reassurance
What if my situation is more complicated than I think?
We’ll tell you. If your matter goes beyond what we can help with, we’ll be upfront about it and can refer you to a qualified local attorney. We’d rather do right by you than take on something outside our scope.
Can I do this remotely?
Yes. Many of our clients complete the entire process by phone and email. We offer secure document submission and can consult via phone or video call.
What happens if my documents are rejected by the court?
We stand behind our work. If a document is rejected due to a preparation error on our part, we’ll correct it at no additional charge.
